Anatomy & Physiology Lab 08: The Skeletal System - Durable

  • $129.00

Station Lab Activity 08a – The Skeletal System

  • Station lab activity that has students investigate the organs, histology, diseases, and characteristics of the skeletal system. Students investigate the construction and strength of long bones, determine height, from long bone length, and calculate skeletal proportions.

Lab Activity 08b – Calcium & Osteoporosis

  • Students learn about the different bone minerals and the importance of calcium to normal body functions. Students also learn about bone mineral homeostasis and how an imbalance can lead to osteoporosis. Students use chicken bones to observe the mineral salts and collagen components of bone tissues.

Lab Activity 08c – Bone Anatomy

  • Students learn about the structure of bone tissues and the cellular difference between compact and spongy bone. Students then create a slide of compact bone to observe under the microscope.

Activity 08d – Identifying X-Rays

  • Students learn about radiography techniques and their uses in the medical field. Students also learn about common fractures. The students then work as a radiologist to diagnose the location and type of fracture for 14 patients using printed x-ray images.

Skill Activity 08e – Long Bone Immobilization

  • An activity that allows students to practice splinting and immobilization of the forearm in case of fracture. The skills test is the same test for “Long Bone Immobilization” as that of the National EMT Registry exam.
